Archives Day 2023
On Saturday, November 11, Skive Byarkiv invites you inside Gammel Skivehus. On the occasion of Archives Day, there will be a guided tour at 10:00. Meet the archive’s volunteer staff and hear about their work.
Archives Day is a nationwide event where archives across the country hold an open house on the second Saturday in November. On this occasion, city archivist Kristian Buhl Thomsen will give a tour and talk about the building history of Gammel Skivehus. Come down into the basement from the 1400s and see Skive’s oldest room. Hear about the time as a residence for the sheriffs and as a manor house under Colonel Verner Parsberg in the 1700s.
As part of the event, you can also listen to a recording with resistance fighter Jens Toldstrup, who talks about the fight for freedom during the German occupation of Denmark 1940-1945. Jens Toldstrup started a resistance group with the alias Terrænsportsforeningen. In 1944, he became the leader of the reception of weapons and explosives that the British dropped from planes to the resistance movement throughout Jutland.
Many hours of volunteer work
Finally, you can have a chat with the City Archive’s volunteer staff, who will showcase their work scanning thousands of historical photos and digitizing films and audiotapes. The volunteers put in many hours of work every week to make local history accessible to citizens. Scanned photos with historical motifs of houses, people and events in the local community are continuously uploaded to Arkiv.dk, where the public can view them from home.
Free admission, everyone is welcome
Participation is free of charge. Everyone is welcome to meet up at Gammel Skivehus, Søndre Boulevard 1A on Saturday, November 11 from 10:00-13:00.
