HIKE IN JENSEN & SØRENSENS PLANTATION IN GL. RØNBJERG

Meeting point: “Æ Tørhus”, Hvidemosevej 10, Gl. Rønbjerg, 7800 Skive

Monday, August 14 at 19.00-21.00.

Tour leaders: Christian Vad Holm, Mads Bylov-Tanderup and Kristian Buhl Thomsen

Once again this year, we will be holding a traditional hike in Jensen & Sørensen’s Plantation. Christian Vad Holm (a “Jensen”) and Mads Bylov Tanderup (a “Sørensen”) as well as city archivist Kristian Buhl Thomsen will talk about the nature and history of the area.

Along the way, the three tour guides will talk about the peat industry in the area and how the area was converted to nature and forestry after peat production ceased after World War 2. World War II.

Jensen & Sørensen’s Plantation covers an area of approximately 260 hectares. It was previously home to one of the largest peat factories in the area, Rønbjerg Tørvefabrikker from 1899. After 2. World War II, peat production ceased. The suitable peat mass was running out – and customers preferred heating from oil-fired boilers or district heating. And what do you do with 260 hectares of moors and bogs? The Jensen & Sørensen families decided to switch to forestry and plant the area with conifers and deciduous trees. This has completely changed the character of the area, so that today you can walk along beautiful forest roads.

“Æ Tørhus” will be open this evening, where it will be possible to buy refreshments after the hike.

The walk, organized by Jensen & Sørensens Plantage ApS and Skive Byarkiv, is approximately 2.8 kilometers. Good walking shoes are recommended.

It is free to participate and all interested parties are welcome.
