Cemeteries in Denmark are a very special and exciting piece of history.

On a tour of the cemetery, you can get an impression of who has lived in the parish over the last 100 years by looking at the many interesting gravestones that tell about people’s professions and their family relationships.

From beautiful gravestones to fine wrought-iron grilles, the gravestones and the decoration of the graves tell the story of Danish burial customs past and present. And of course, it’s always a beautiful experience to walk through a well-kept cemetery.

Skive Cemetery

Skive Cemetery is one of the most beautifully situated cemeteries in Denmark, located on the slope down towards the river valley. The cemetery contains graves from the last couple of hundred years, and some of them will be told about during a walking tour of the cemetery on Thursday, June 29 at 19:00.

Former and current city archivists Niels Mortensen and Kristian Buhl Thomsen will talk about some of the people buried in Skive cemetery. Many of the Skiveites who have played a role in the history of the city and the region over the last 100 years are buried here. High and low, side by side. That’s why you can cover a lot of Skive’s history in just a few meters – from the socialist worker to the conservative businessman.

In collaboration with Niels Mortensen and Kristian Buhl Thomsen, the cemetery has selected 40 people, from whom a history has been written and pictures from their lifetime have been found. All the material is collected on the cemetery’s website, where you can immerse yourself in the history.

Folder and QR codes

A leaflet has been created in which the selected stones and gravestones are mentioned. This guide shows you around the 40 selected memorials that have made a big impression on the history of Skive and the surrounding area.

In the leaflet you can see on the map where the various memorials are located in the cemetery. At each memorial there will be a sign with a small appetizer about the person. You can also scan the QR code and go directly to the cemetery’s website www.skivekirkegaarde.dk where much more history awaits.
